What is your WHY?

Updated: Apr 14, 2024

This post is going to talk about "What is your WHY". There are many different reasons people make the decisions that they do in all aspects of their lives. In this post I'm going to talk about the importance of your WHY.

Google will tell you: Your “Why” is a statement of purpose that describes why you do the work you do and why you live the lifestyle you do. It is your calling. It is your conviction. It is your mission statement. It is a vision of your life and work."

Finding your why is a huge step in your journey. You need to find the real true reason WHY you want to make these lifestyle changes. It could be for any reason. You want to live a longer life, you may want to run around with your kids, you may just want to prove to yourself that YOU CAN DO IT. Whatever your reason, it needs to motivate you. It needs to be the reason you get up in the morning and make and make the concisions decision of what you are going to eat that day, wether or not you're going to exercise. It is your pure motivation.

Why finding your "WHY" is so important.

1. IT MOTIVATES YOU AND GIVES YOU PURPOSE

Knowing why you do what you do is crucial. Otherwise we would all just be aimlessly wandering about without any real sense of purpose or end goals in mind.

2. IT HELPS YOU IN DECISION MAKING

When your “why” is kept at the forefront of all that you do, making decisions becomes a lot easier. It helps you to remember your values so that when it comes time to make decisions, you are doing what’s best for you.

3. IT DRIVES YOU WHEN TIMES GET TOUGH

It can be easy to lose sight of why we work so hard to try to make our dreams happen if we don’t keep the “why” in mind as we go through those tough times. If you’re having a bad day or feel like you’ve lost your sense of purpose in doing what you do, keep reminding yourself of why you got started in the first place.

SO MY FRIENDS, THIS IS MY CHALLENGE FOR YOU THIS WEEKEND:

Take the time to ask yourself “WHY?”.

For example:

  • Why do you do what you do for a living?

  • Why do you have the lifestyle that you currently live?

  • Why do you want to loose the weight?

  • Why do you wake up every day and do the things that you do?

Asking yourself this might actually reveal that you don’t have a why. And that’s okay. It just means that you have given yourself an opportunity to reevaluate your goals a bit and perhaps create a plan of action to live more purposefully and become more fulfilled by the things that you do.

If you do find yourself being able to pinpoint your “why”s, I encourage you to try to keep them at the back of your mind. Especially on days that you need extra motivation. For me personally, I have my "WHY" posted on my fridge and on my make-up mirror. So every day when I wake up, I can remind myself why I am doing what I'm doing.

We all have our struggles, our inner demons that will try their hardest to stop us from succeeding. We just need to tell them to shut the F**K UP! Do these things for YOU. Do this because YOU want to. That is the only way my program is going to work for you. If you are feeling discouraged, I am always here to keep you motivated, but at the end of the day, these are your choices. I can write you the perfect meal plan with all of your macros in place, but if you choose not to follow the plan and trust the process, that is on you.

This last week has been very trying on me personally. I had a lot of things blow up in my face, but I still woke up everyday and reread my WHY and instead of binge eating, I went for an extra long walk to clear my head. I took time for me to sit in the park and write in my journal. I sat in my bed at night and just cried. I know we all go through shit. Life is hard. As long as you keep your end goal in your sight, you will succeed. I promise you that! It won't happen over night. It will take time to get into the healthy habits but before you know it they will become second nature.
